Again, silly that it isn't just a part of the maintenance menu page, maybe on the firmware version screen or something. We are making assumptions about why the request was made too, perhaps the person is just curious how much they have used the camera to make a decision of whether to just sell it or keep it. If you and other want to get hung up on number of actuations as being the most important factor in buying a camera, that is your perogative. Perhaps wise buyers find my descriptions of cameras and my positive feedback of 144 more important than the number of actuations. I have bought and sold many cameras without myself or buyer knowing the number of actuations.

etc.Ī car with 10,000 miles that was owned by a careful driver that takes good care of their car can be in a lot better condition than one with 1,000 miles on it that is a wreck because of driver abuse. A car can have 10,000 miles on it and be in mint condition depending on: how it was maintained, road surfaces it was driven on, manner in which it was driven, etc. Just like mileages, shutter clicks are not all equal. Perhaps their warranty department thinks that as people near their warranty period and have high shutter counts, they are likely going to make up stories about the camera to get something repaired in the warranty period? There has to be some sort of reason, because the camera has it, they just don't show it on any menu page.įirst of all cars are not the same as cameras. I have no idea why Canon makes all of this so VERY difficult to find. Heck it isn't even a good indicator of how well the camera was taken care of, or how many times it was used to shoot ocean life in all that saltwater air.Īlso at what point does a shutter count become concerning? 50% of the published MTBF? 80%? Everyone looks at this and the price point very subjectively, so again, this is a very superficial factor in the purchase of gear. It doesn't drive warranty rules, it isn't a guarantee of "lifetime", and you cannot assume you will make it to that number or beyond.

There is no set max shutter count for a camera, even the numbers posted by Canon mean nothing, other than to show levels of robustness from one model to another (model A has 100K MTBF, but model b has 300K MTBF so obviously B is built better). It does affect resale, but in a very superficial way. One could record 3000 hours of video with an R6 but only take 1000 still shots, for example.

The cameras would also have to store total time sensor was on to feed the EVF, rear LCD, movie modes, etc to really gain a sense of usage.

Shutter counts don't really mean anything with mirrorless however. Would you buy a used car without knowing the mileage? Why are you even worrying about it? If it is that important and you want an ACCURATE count, you have to send it to Canon and pay to have it done. Is there a way to confirm shutter count in camera? Any help is appreciated, thanks! I checked the forum and don't have an apple device to use the previously suggested app and the websites don't seem to work as the R6 does not imbed shutter data in the file.

This is the best lil software that would help.Better than the paid one Ĥ0d shutter count still works on OSX 10.9.I'm looking for help in trying to find the shutter count on my R6. Yep the 40Dshuttercount app worked for me as well on my iMac running MacOS 10.7.4, 24,849 actuations. the program runs on 32-bit computers only?Ĥ0Dshuttercount definitely works for the 5D MkII on Macs.

Thanks Kyle Royston, it works on a MAC even though some of the messages imply it will not work on 5D series. I can confirm that the link Kyle Royston posted above me, works just fine, and is easy to use on my iMac. Those with Macs need to run 40d shutter count.Ī/40dshuttercount.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookie. Thanks will have to try that as I have some camras I bought used that would interesting, also I got a count from Canon on my 5D I will see if ties up. I think you're right Ken but it's the only way I've managed to find out my 7D's actuations. I think Macs are not compatible with EOSCount. I think some internet browsers are not compatible but they give you all the info you need.

I had the same issue with my 7D and was able to know exactly hoy many I have in my camera. In EOSCount you can check your MKII's actuations. The other topic about the 300,000 count on the 5D Mark II got me to thinking I would like to check what my count is. Can you check for this on the 5D Mark II in camera? I thought you could but can't find anything on the Menu.
